Russia Manager Guus Hiddink Concerned About Roman Pavlyuchenko's Position At Tottenham Hotspur
Roman should think about finding added playing time, says Guus.
Manager of the Russia national team, Guus Hiddink, 62, has reiterated his concern over the situation in which Roman Pavlyuchenko finds himself at Tottenham Hotspur.
Hiddink, who enjoyed a successful interim tenure at Chelsea last season, stated that Pavlyuchenko's bit-part status with Spurs will limit his involvement in Russia's upcoming World Cup play-off tussle with Slovenia.
"I'm seriously concerned about his position at Spurs," said Hiddink to the official website of the Premier League.
The striker has failed to establish himself in the line-ups of Harry Redknapp, with the Tottenham boss favouring Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch ahead of Pavlyuchenko.
"Perhaps he should think about how he can get more playing time, but despite all his problems with match practice, Roman has special qualities: in almost every match he has one or two chances to score, and he often takes them.
"Therefore, we shouldn't exclude him from the national team completely. If the match against Slovenia is not going our way, Pavlyuchenko should get his chance."
In the past month, Pavlyuchenko has been linked with a return to Russia, as Zenit St Petersburg have expressed interest (Daily Mail). AC Milan (Mirror) and Birmingham City (News of the World) have also been linked with the player.
