Cesar Navas Hopes To Meet Real Madrid In Champions League Next Season
The defender is hoping to be reunited with La Liga in the Champions League next year...
Cesar Navas has admitted today that he would like to meet Real Madrid in the Champions League with Rubin Kazan next season.
The defender moved to Russia this winter from Racing Santander and has already impressed in the few matches that he has featured in.
He told AS that the lure of European football was what attracted him to Eastern Europe and that he is looking forward to competing with the big boys next season.
"Any player is attracted by this competition and it is a step forward in my career. Even though we are not very well known I expect that we will play a big part," he mused.
"I hope we face a Spanish side. I would love to play Real Madrid in the next season. We are a difficult side to beat as our defence is strong and we have dangerous forwards too. Last year we won the league because we were so well organised."
Indeed, Rubin were impressive in Russia last year and even though there is plenty of competition in the league, they are expected to be competitive again this season.
Navas, who is the second tallest player in the league behind Jan Koller, admitted that there are some good teams, but that he is looking forward to the challenge.
"The team is built to win the title but it will be difficult as they are teams with a lot of quality," he explained.
"For me, there are six or seven very strong sides, especially Zenit [St. Petersburg] and CSKA [Moscow] and the rest are a level below. I have seen that the Russian players are very strong and technically gifted too."
