Luis Aragonés praised his players after they put on another convincing display to win the European Championships and end his reign as coach in style. The veteran coach remained calm as he described his feelings after guiding la Furia Roja to their first major title since 1964 thanks to a goal from Fernando Torres.
Following a tournament that has won Spain many more fans due to their style and attacking football, Aragonés believes no side could cope with them at their best.
"This triumph is for all the players because they have always had faith. That is why they have had the tournament they have had," he explained.
"We have an extraordinarily good team. There is no doubt about that. When we play, there is no team that can stand up to us."
When asked how he was staying calm and whether it was a show for the media, the trainer explained that he would take a backseat and allow his squad to take the adulation.
"It is my duty to be polite and calm. Am I going to celebrate? I will only accompany the boys," he added.
Aragonés denied that there was any chance that he would be staying on as coach after announcing that he would not be signing a new contract despite the win.
"No, there is no possibility that I will stay on," he said.
