Cesc Fàbregas has hailed winning the European Championships as the best day of his life and believes that Spain can now look ahead to the next World Cup with confidence.
A single goal from Fernando Torres was enough to win the final against Germany, but it could have been many more as the Spanish created numerous chances with another outstanding display.
"It feels great. It is the best day of my life as a player," Fàbregas said. "I don't think it has sunk in what we have achieved. We have ended the wait after 44 years.
"It is the best feeling. This is one of the best trophies and one my dreams."
Fàbregas praised the team for wanting to play the attractive football that won them so many admirers and universal praise throughout the tournament.
"It is satisfying. It is a long time since a team of that quality, trying to put the ball on the ground, create chances and play beautiful football has succeeded."
Finally, Fàbregas said that he believes that this could be the start of a strong era for the Spain team and was already looking forward to 2010
"You can see how young we are and hopefully in twoyears time we can do well in the World Cup," he added.
