David Villa has admitted that he will have to watch the European Championships final from the sidelines and not try to force himself back into action. The Valencia striker strained a muscle during the victory over Russia on Thursday evening and was substituted just before half time because he could not continue.
Now it has been revealed that the injury, that he sustained taking a free-kick, will not be better by the weekend and Villa is adapting to the idea that he will not play.
"Now I will have to enjoy the game from the bench," he told reports. "I am very happy, although obviously after coming off I did not feel very god at all.
"To force myself back for Sunday would be stupid, I would do it although it would mean playing lame, but this is a team.
"There are people that will play better than someone who is injured because they are 100 per cent ready."
Villa could not hide his delight at Spain's first final appearance at a major tournament since 1984 and a few words with Prince Felipe made his evening.
