Luis Aragones’ side beat Guus Hiddink’s brave team in the semi-final on Thursday night to set up a mouth watering final clash on Sunday with Germany.
Casillas has been one of Spain’s
best players and he is proving his worth on the international stage. The Real
Madrid stopper cannot believe his team have come so far.
“To be honest, I cannot believe it,” Casillas told
“I am so happy with the result and so is everyone else
in the dressing room.
“Now we have to take full advantage and we have made
the country so proud of Spanish football.”
Villarreal’s Joan Capdevila also had a few words on La
Seleccion’s triumph but he is being a little more modest.
“We are in the final as a result of all the hard work
that we put into it,” said the stopper.
“I hope all goes well against Germany and we
have to try and take advantage on Sunday.
“We are all delighted but we need to be cautious and
keep our feet on the ground.”
Spain and Germany
were favourites to win the tournament at the start on June 7 and now it will be
down to whichever team wants it the most on Sunday.
