thumbnail Hello,

The national team coach has insisted that les Bleus will look to go as far as they can in this summer’s World Cup to make up for their woeful showing in 2010

Didier Deschamps wants to take France "as far as possible" in the World Cup and has demanded ambition from his team in Brazil this summer.

Les Bleus had a disastrous 2010 finals, when they were eliminated at the group stage, four years after they were beaten at the final hurdle by Italy.

The Frenchman, who captained his nation to World Cup victory on home soil in 1998, emphasised the importance of belief in his squad and says players will not linger on the awful showing in South Africa.

"France must have the ambition to be the most competitive possible," Deschamps, 45, told Fifa.com. "We will go to Brazil with the urge to go as far as possible.

"No one can erase what happened in 2010. This will be part of the story. But we do not look behind us. The important thing is the World Cup and Euro 2016 in France that will follow."

France have been drawn alongside Honduras, Ecuador and Switzerland in Group E of the World Cup, after qualifying via a play-off against Ukraine in a 3-2 aggregate win.

"It is a great satisfaction to have reached the goal and have experienced great emotions at the Stade de France," added Deschamps.

"It makes me very happy that many French people were behind us. The press can write and say many things, but the people, my staff and I believe in the players."
