The Dortmund star has been handed a recall to the Germany set-up following Bastian Schweinsteiger's suspension
The Bayern Munich star picked up a booking in the 3-0 win over Kazakhstan on Friday, prompting Joachim Low to bring in the Dortmund midfielder, who is recovering from flu.
"I had hoped for [a call-up]. It's obviously great for me," he told the DFB's official website.
"All week I had been really low, but for a few days I've been getting better. Now I feel much better. I'm not quite at 100 per cent yet, but there are a couple of days until the game.
"I have trained twice a day, but only alone, not with the team. I've done some intensive sessions, but they were also only individually."
However, despite the availability of Bender, Julian Draxler is now unavailable due to concussion, his club, Schalke, have confirmed on their official website.
"My skull hurts. I'll rest now, then it will be better. I am still proud to have earned my debut in the starting XI," the teenager said.
Germany face Kazakhstan again on Tuesday in Nurnberg.
