Individuals don't win tournaments, says Dunga
The former Selecao trainer has expressed his views on the upcoming 2014 World Cup, and says Spain are still not the greatest international team of all time
Former Brazil national team coach Dunga is of the opinion that team work, and not individuals, is the key to success in football. The 49-year-old spoke of the favourites to win the 2014 World Cup and underplayed Spain's title credentials, insisting that they have some way to go if they are to be the greatest international team ever.
"Spain have won only one World Cup and they have been successful just for the past four years. Let them win at least two more World Cups and then we can talk about their pedigree," he told Times of India.
"An individual can't win you a tournament. For a team to succeed, you need your star players to be surrounded by a host of other quality players. Ronaldo is very talented but his teammates are ordinary.
"Messi is more experienced now, while Neymar is growing in confidence. Both Brazil and Argentina have a team to support their star players."
Dunga also reserved praise for newly-appointed Brazil national team coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, and he believes the former Chelsea trainer is the right man for the job.
"Scolari is the right man for Brazil at this moment. He has the experience and immense knowledge of the game.
"He has guided the team to the World Cup title once and I strongly believe that 'Big Phil' [Scolari] will come up with another winning recipe.
"He has the winning profile and that's important when it comes to coaching a team like Brazil," he said.
The 49-year-old took the time to express his views on Brazilian superstar Neymar's future as well, and Dunga believes the striker should consider a move to Europe after the 2014 World Cup.
"He should go over to Europe after the World Cup. It will help him grow as a player."
