Netherlands game more than a friendly, says Bierhoff

The Germany team manager believes that Oranje will be eager to make up for their group-stage exit at Euro 2012, and says his side are looking to play against top-quality opponents

Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff believes that Wednesday's clash with Netherlands in Amsterdam will mean more to both teams than regular friendlies.

Die Mannschaft beat Oranje 2-1 at Euro 2012 in June as the Dutch were eliminated at the group stage, and the former striker believes the hosts will be eager for revenge.

"I am looking forward to the match," he was quoted as saying on the German FA (DFB)'s official website.

"It will not have the character of typical friendly matches, the rivalry is too strong for that. The Dutch are likely to be concerned about getting revenge for the Euros."

The 44-year-old then took the time to praise his opponents, and insisted that his team will only improve if they play against sides of Oranje's quality often.

"Netherlands are an important and strong opponent. Regarding planning for the season, we intend to face opponents like them often.

"We want to end this year in good fashion and win this prestigious duel here in Netherlands. It is important to be tested like that."
