Arshavin unconcerned by Russia snub
The Arsenal forward has been a part of the national team for the past four-and-a-half years, but is not surprised by Fabio Capello's recent decision to omit him from the squad
Andrey Arshavin has insisted he is not concerned by his recent failure to receive a Russia call-up from new coach Fabio Capello. The attacking midfielder will not be included in the Italian's squad to face both Israel and Northern Ireland, as the country looks to secure qualification for World Cup 2014.
The 31-year old is not surprised at his omission, however, claiming it is his own doing after struggling to recapture his form of yesteryear at Arsenal and Zenit St Petersburg, and also with Russia at Euro 2012.
"It's logical, really. The agreement is that when I don't play well for my club, I shouldn't expect a place in the national squad," he told Sport Express.
"The fact I've been omitted did not come as a shock."
Russia will welcome Northern Ireland on September 7, before travelling to Israel four days later.
