thumbnail Hello,

Barcelona man insists it would be 'crazy' to turn down Spain for a possible call from the Samba Stars

Thiago Alcantara has pledged his allegiance to Spain ahead of the international friendly against Italy on Wednesday.

The Barcelona midfielder could still choose to feature for Brazil in the future as he has not yet played an official match for Vicente del Bosque's side.

But ahead of making his debut for the world champions, the 20-year-old has said he will not switch loyalties, despite his father Mazinho being a former Brazil international.

"I am who I am thanks to Spain," Alcantara told La Repubblica.

"There was a chance of playing for Brazil, but I have never taken this into consideration.

"I have been in Spain since I was three-years-old. It would be crazy to say yes to the call now and then refuse one in the future. I am always available to the coach."

The game on Wednesday will take place in Bari where the player was born.
