The former Marseille defender comes in for his fellow full-back ahead of Wednesday's international friendly after the 25-year-old was forced to withdraw due to injurySpain national team coach Vicente del Bosque has decided to replace Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos with Malaga's Nacho Monreal after the former was forced to withdraw from the squad due to a back problem.
Ramos sustained the injury during his side's pre-season tour to USA and the knock again caused him problems during his side's 6-0 friendly win over Tianjin on Saturday. It's not yet exactly known how long the former Sevilla player will be sidelined, but he won't take part in Wednesday's international friendly against Italy.
The 25-year-old Monreal hadn't been included in the Spain squad since the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Lithuania and Scotland in October 2010.
Monreal joins team-mate Santi Cazorla in the national side and can become the eighth Malaga player in history to represent Spain. Macias, Migueli, Deusto, Jose Rufete, Pedro Contreras and Salva Ballesta previously played for the national side while under contract at the Costa del Sol outfit.
The match between the 2006 and 2010 World Cup winners will be played in Bari on Wednesday.
