Paraguay finished their Asian tour with a 1-1 tie against China in Guangzhou, after Gerardo Martino's men failed to hold on to an early lead courtesy of Borussia Dortmund's Lucas Barrios.

It was the Guaranies who took the lead in their first dangerous attack of the game. Barrios took full advantage of a rebound after Chinese goalkeeper Zeng Cheng had rejected a strong header from Roque Santa Cruz, after eight minutes had passed of the first half.

The Chinese in response took time to fashion an attacking reaction, with the first danger from the home team coming after 20 minutes. Nevertheless they would find an equaliser before half-time thanks to striker Gao Lin. Justo Villar in the Guarani goal was caught on the near post by a tempting cross, and Lin had only to stab the ball into an open net in order to level up the game.

The second half favoured brawn not brain, as both teams ran and hit hard without much planning or precision. Barrios had the ball in the net once more with half an hour remaining only to see his effort ruled out for outside, while Zeng Cheng pulled off a number of impressive saves as Paraguay looked the more likely to add to the scoreline. The Albirroja failed to break a determined Chinese resistance though, and in the end were forced to settle for a draw.
