Speaking to Sky Sports after the game the Tottenham Hotspur striker said it was a frustrating evening for the Irish side who maintained their record of failing to score against their South American opponents.
"It was a very tough game for us as we are playing against a world class team. We couldn't get near Argentina at times," he said.
The Irish struggled for large periods against a strong Argentina side featuring the vast majority of their World Cup stars. Keane went close at the death with a chance but was denied by a superb tackle by Martin Demichelis.
"We had a few half chances. It was one of those nights, we didn't really create a lot of chances but playing against a tough team we can take a few positives.
"First half was very difficult, in the second half we pushed high up the field up against them to make it easier for ourselves."
Asked about the achievement of reaching 100 caps the skipper said it was a proud moment.
"It would have been nice to top it off with a result, a draw maybe but we move forward now and look forward to the qualifiers."
