Stiliyan Petrov: Bulgaria Will Treat Russia Like England
Bulgaria captain will use today's friendly in St. Petersburg as a test for qualifiers against England....
By Andrew McLean
Bulgaria captain and Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov has said the national team will use today's friendly against Russia as preparation for their matches against England in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
"I think this will only be a friendly game on paper, Russian fans and Dick Advocaat's first game will not allow it to be. The main task for us is to prepare for the clash against England. The Russian team resembles the English in terms of style and ability.
"We have a young team but we are ambitious, so we will give the Russians a fight. I hope the fans will enjoy the meeting."
When asked whether Bulgaria were at a disadvantage with the majority of the Russian squad already halfway through their season, Petrov commented: "We have players in the RPL, China and Japan. These guys are in good shape.
"I will not hide that this match has a special connotation for me. It will be interesting to see Pavlyuchenko, Arshavin and Bilyaletdinov, who play in England," Petrov told Sport-Express.
