Golden Ball winner looking to 2014 World Cup...Goal.com Spain reports that World Cup 2010 Golden Ball winner Diego Forlan has set his sights on participating in Brazil 2014. After fellow Uruguay international Sebastian Abreu said age has no restrictions in preventing him taking part, captain Forlan will follow suit.
Forlan said: " I think I can get in a position where I can contest the 2014 World Cup."
The Atletico Madrid striker will be 35 when the next tournament rolls around but has confidence he will be in shape should Uruguay qualify, after leading the country, despite niggling injuries, to a narrow semi-final defeat to eventual runners-up Netherlands.
The result of the World Cup in South Africa Forlan believes will enable his nation "to go even further", hoping that it will help generate better conditions for players at home to flourish.
Obviously it will be dependant on the South Americans' qualification first and foremost, but for Forlan to play in a World Cup in Brazil "would be a dream", says the striker, who was also a part of the 2002 Uruguay squad which was eliminated in the group stage in Japan and Korea.
Forlan also stated his desire to remain in Madrid and see out his contract with Atletico.
