Slovakia Star Marek Hamsik Pleased With Win Over United States
The Napoli midfielder was left impressed with his national side’s defeat of the more fancied Americans.
Napoli icon Marek Hamsik gave 2010 World Cup finalists Slovakia a famous 1-0 win over the United States in Bratislava yesterday and the 22-year-old was thrilled with his side’s display after the encounter.
“We played against a very good team who put in an excellent performance,” said Hamsik, who notched up his eighth goal for Slovakia after tucking a way a spot-kick on 26 minutes.
“I honestly reckon that the USA are among the top ten strongest outfits in the world and it’s no wonder they are hard to beat.
“I am happy to have won this match. I took the penalty the way I was planning to. I picked an angle, I shoot and that’s where the ball landed.”
Meanwhile, Hamsik’s club side Napoli played a practice match between ranks at the Castel Volturno complex yesterday in preparation for next Sunday’s visit of Lazio.
Brazilian Inacio Pià netted the only goal, but defender Fabiano Santacroce sat out the encounter and again trained apart from the rest of the squad, making him a serious doubt for the clash with the Aquile.
