Player Ratings: Netherlands 2-2 England

The Three Lions came from two goals down to claim an entertaining draw in Amsterdam. Goal.com rates the performers…
NETHERLANDS

Stekelenburg: 6.5 – Couldn’t do much about either goal but made some good saves particularly from Lampard and Rooney in the first half.
Heitinga: 6.5 – Did well against Young and Cole and made a good clearance from Defoe just before the hour mark. However, struggled against Milner and was at fault for the equaliser.

Ooijer: 7 - A sloppy backpass almost got him in trouble early on but recovered and did superbly to deny Lampard midway through the first half. Carlton Cole gave him problems late on but made a fine header to deny the West Ham man late on.

Mathijsen: 6.5 -
Looked very strong, and was certainly tested against Heskey but comfortable in the first half. Was a different story after the break and was really troubled by Defoe’s pace.

Braafheid: 7 - The Bayern Munich man enjoyed a promising evening and had some good moments. Did really well against Heskey, particularly on half-time when he beat the striker much to the crowd’s delight.

De Jong: 7 - Excellent challenge on Rooney midway through the first half and tracked all his midfielders well.

Schaars: 7 - Neat and tidy and put very few passes astray. Competent.

Van der Vaart: 7.5 - Hugely influential and found plenty of space and time. Grabbed the second goal after Green had saved from Robben and set up Kuyt twice before being subbed at the break.

van Persie: 6.5 - Not as hugely involved as he will have liked. One good shot in the first half before heading off at the break.

Kuyt: 7.5 - His goal was something of a gift but he still had work to do and he finished well. Could have had more but a header was denied by Green before he smashed another effort over.

Robben: 7 - His direct running worried England and caused problems. Should have scored on the half hour mark but Green saved. Set up the second after Green had parried his shot into Van der Vaart’s path.

Substitutes:

Babel: 6.5 - His direct running worried new team-mate Johnson and a late shot wasn’t too far away.

Sneijder: 6.5 - Not afraid to shoot and had several opportunities but couldn’t beat Green.

Afellay: 6.0 – A fairly solid outing.

Huntelaar: n/a

Mendes Da Silva: n/a

ENGLAND

Green: 7 – One sloppy back pass almost got him into trouble but was otherwise strong and made several good saves particularly from Kuyt and Robben.

Johnson: 6 – Looked better going forwards than defensively. A neat ball set up Lampard well and he was frequently in advanced positions. However, beaten by Robben and Babel far too easily at times and had a few sloppy moments at the back that he just about survived.

Ferdinand: 3 - A complete stinker from the Manchester United man. A quite comical error handed Holland the opener and he was sloppy all evening.

Terry: 7 –Was on the line but still couldn’t prevent Kuyt opening the scoring but other than that he looked strong.

Ashley Cole: 6.5 – A fairly quiet evening in truth. Did OK defensively and managed a few crosses but that was about it from the Chelsea man.

Beckham: 7 - Was one of England’s liveliest performers on his 113th cap. Headed a difficult chance over, supplied decent delivery but only lasted 45 minutes.

Barry: 3.5 – Only played for the first 45 minutes and despite a few promising moments will be remembered purely for the awful error that handed Holland the second goal.

Lampard: 7 – A subdued first half but was much better after the break. Set up Defoe and Cole well with two long balls.

Young: 6 – Injury to Gerrard handed him his first start for his country and he did OK. Got in some crosses and provided width down the left without ever really impressing.

Rooney: 7 - Worked incredibly hard, despite a lack of service, and combined well with Heskey. Fired a super effort just wide minutes before half time and never stopped running.

Heskey: 6.5 - Like Rooney, lacked service but not effort, his physical presence at times caused problems and did really well to set up Rooney just before the break.

Substitutes

Defoe: 8.5 - Arrived at the break and minutes later had scored with a good run and classy finish. Added his second after good work by Milner and looked razor sharp.

Carrick: 6 – A slight improvement on Barry but failed to shine.

Wright-Phillips: 6.5 – A few promising moments and set up Defoe for a chance.

Carlton Cole: 7 – Made a real impact after coming on and looked full of confidence. Almost scored after showing good skill on the ball but fired wide.

Milner: 7.5 - Good cross for Defoe seconds after coming on before setting up the second goal with some great play and super cross.
