Lippi Will Consider Amauri For Italy
The Nazionale tactician has hinted at a call up for Amauri and he has wished the injured Gattuso a quick recovery...
Italy coach Marcello Lippi has hinted that he will consider calling up Juventus striker Amauri for the Confederations Cup next year if his Italian passport drops through the letter box.
The debate over whether Amauri should or shouldn't play for the Nazionale has raged on over the years and, with his naturalisation progressing, their is some hope that he will done the Azzurri jersey.
Lippi is biding his time with the Brazilian-born man as he waits for clearance.
"Amauri? That all depends on the naturalisation of his wife and this is in progress," Lippi told Sky Sport Italia.
"Once that comes through then I will start to think about Amauri playing for La Nazaionale."
Lippi also spared a thought for crocked Milan star Gennaro Gattuso, who is likely to miss the rest of the season.
However, the coach is hopeful of a speedy recovery. "Gattuso is an extraordinary player and a leader. He drags the team forward from a psychological point of view. He is a great example to younger players," added Lippi.
"He is always there in decisive moments and he may even be back for the Confederations Cup in June."
"Gattuso is always fast with his recoveries. If it takes five months then you can be sure he will be back in four."
