Pearce: 'Mature' Michael Reminds Me Of Theo

England under-21 manager Stuart Pearce has spoken about how Michael Mancienne seems wise beyond his years and reminds him of another young player who received a shock call-up.

Michael Mancienne, on loan at Wolverhampton from Chelsea, was a surprise call-up to Fabio Capello's England squad.

Stuart Pearce is the latest figure within the game to pay tribute to Michale Mancienne-the youngster who has received a shock call-up to the England squad to face Germany in Berlin despite never having played a Premier League game.

"He's got a turn of pace which is always helpful in the modern game. He reads the game very well. He’s comfortable on the ball bringing it out of defence when he has to and he’s got a good attitude to learn the game," Pearce told Setanta Sports News.

And Pearce also feels that Mancienne has more than a little in common with another young English player: Theo Walcott.

"He’s a smashing young man, he reminds me of Theo a little bit. He’s mature beyond his years," the former England defender added, and went on to praise Mancienne's attitude.

"He’s been patient at Chelsea. He’s at a very good club with a lot of talent which make it difficult for a young man. He’s gone out on loan and was out on loan last year.

"He’s been the best player at Under-21 level for the last four or five games. He’s been the best player on the pitch for Wolverhampton in every game he’s played on loan."

Pearce went on to reveal that the player had attracted England senior boss Fabio Capello's attention without a nod from him.

"I didn’t have to recommend Michael, Fabio came to me and said 'what about Mancienne?'. Obviously I gave them a glowing report because he’s done extremely well for me. I said he won’t let you down if he comes into your squad."
