Capello Conscripts Gerrard To England Camp
Steven Gerrard pulled out of the England squad last night after suffering a groin strain at the weekend, but Fabio Capello has ordered the Liverpool midfielder to report for duty...
According to The Sun, Capello has ignored the Reds' claims that Gerrard re-injured his problem groin against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
The Liverpool captain played all 90 minutes in a 2-0 win at the Reebok, but the club revealed yesterday that scans taken afterwards detected a tear his adductor muscle.
The prognosis? A week on the sidelines, which conveniently rules the 28-year-old out of Wednesday's friendly with Germany but could see him available for next weekend's Premier League clash against Fulham.
It is perhaps understandable, then, that Capello has told Gerrard he must join up with the England squad to be given a once-over by the national team's medical staff.
It isn't the first time the Merseyside hero has conspired to skive off international duty. He pulled a similar trick to dodge World Cup qualifying in September, going under the knife for what some believe was essentially preventative surgery.
Capello will also be without Manchester United duo Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney, while Chelsea's John Terry remains a 50-50 chance to feature in Berlin.
