Kuyt: Van Persie told me he wants to play for Fenerbahce one day
The former Liverpool forward expressed delight to have joined his new club and revealed his Netherlands international team-mate has spoken to him about moving to Turkey
Fenerbahce forward Dirk Kuyt has revealed Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has spoken of his desire to move to the Turkish giants.Van Persie’s future has been in doubt since he proclaimed he would not be signing a new contract with the Gunners prior to his current deal expiring next summer.
The current PFA Player of the Year has been linked with a move to Manchester rivals United and City as well as Serie A giants Juventus, but Kuyt says his Dutch colleague would like to play in Turkey at some stage in his career.
"[Van Persie] told me that he wants to play for Fenerbahce one day,” he said at a press conference. "But at the moment there is nothing of the sort. He only shared the feelings he had inside."
The Dutchman also hailed his new club, adding: "Liverpool are a club that are famous in the same way Fenerbahce are famous in Turkey. I am very happy to come to Fenerbahce.
"I'm not a very talented player. But I try very hard. When I played for Liverpool I scored against Manchester United, I will score goals against Galatasaray in the same way here."
Goal.com exclusively revealed on Tuesday that Arsenal are willing to tell Van Persie that he cannot depart the club this summer.
