Trabzonspor forward Burak Yilmaz has expressed his joy after being named as Goal.com's World Player of the Week on Monday.
The Turkey international was on target in his side's 1-1 draw with Super Lig leaders Galatasaray last Sunday and netted again at the weekend against Fenerbahce to take his tally for the current campaign to 32 goals - a new club record for a single season.
The icing on the cake arrived on Monday when Burak beat off competition from Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, Chelsea forward Fernando Torres and Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain to be named our World Player of the Week.
"This award made me very happy," the 26-year-old hitman told Goal.com. "It's great to see your successes being appreciated.
"I hope I can continue my good performances to help my team's journey in the league and it's a great pleasure to surpass stars like Arjen Robben, Fernando Torres and Gonzalo Higuain.
"I want to say thank you to all of the editors who have chosen me ahead of these stars."
Yilmaz, who has been capped 15 times by his country, has recently been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid on account of his wonderful goalscoring form this season.
