Reigning Turkish champions Besiktas host English powerhouse Manchester United on Tuesday evening in their first Champions League match of the 2009-10 campaign, but the home side will not exactly be high in confidence ahead of the highly anticipated clash.

Besiktas started their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Istanbul BB and were then held to draws by Genclerbirligi and Gaziantepspor. Indeed, their only victory was the 2-0 win against Antalyaspor.

They were dealt a further confidence blow on Saturday by rivals Galatasaray. The Istanbul derby ended in a 3-0 defeat for Besiktas, with goals coming from Milan Baros (2) and Mustafa Sarp.

New signings Rodrigo Tabata and Nihat Kahveci have yet to make an impact at their new club after arriving in Istanbul with high expectations.

The duo will be desperate to impress in Wednesday's match against United in an attempt to raise the spirits of the Turkish giants.
