Reports in the past couple of weeks have suggested that Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray are interested in signing Dutch internationals Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and John Heitinga. However, coach Frank Rijkaard has downplayed the rumours, indicating that such players would be hard to sign.

“I don’t think that we can sign players of their calibre. I’d be delighted to see both Huntelaar and Heitinga join Galatasaray, but that won’t happen,” Rijkaard told Dutch sports magazine Sportweek.

“Real and Atletico have paid huge amounts of money for them and they won’t let go of Huntelaar or Heitinga on the cheap. I can only give those players advice on the pitch, their decisions off the field are their own business.”

The former Barcelona coach also took the time to praise the Turkish footballing mentality.

“The Turkish players really are hard workers,” he said. “They always do their utmost and I even have to slow them down every now and then. The players are really brave, but they should also remember to think about organisation.”
