Trabzonspor Frustrated In Attempt To Seize Seoul's Senol Gunes
Gunes is not going home just yet...
With the Korean season on a three-week international break, the 2002 Turkey World Cup coach arrived in his hometown earlier this week to talk to officials of the club he has managed three times in the past.
Trabzonspor, who finished third in the recently concluded league, admitted on their website that while they had offered the job to Gunes, who also played over 400 games as a goalkeeper for the club, FC Seoul had refused to sanction the move without sizeable compensation.
According to reports in the Turkish media, Trabzonspor may decide to wait until Gunes becomes a free agent at the end of this year.
Gunes arrived in Seoul in January 2007 and led the team to the runners-up spot in 2008.
Halfway through the 2009 Korean season, Seoul are third in the league and also in the second round of the Asian Champions League.
