Clarence Seedorf reportedly wants the former Rossoneri centre-half to join his backroom team at San Siro but the Dutch champions are desperate to hold onto their defensive trainer

Jaap Stam's agent has reacted angrily to comments made by Ajax boss Frank de Boer and technical director Marc Overmars about speculation linking his client with AC Milan.

The former Rossoneri centre-half, who currently works as the Dutch champions' defensive trainer, was linked with a return to San Siro the moment Clarence Seedorf was installed as the Serie A side's new coach earlier this month.

De Boer and Overmars both expressed their hope that Stam would remain loyal to Ajax, with the former telling Voetbal International: "It would be a real shame if Jaap would be interested in Milan. Ajax invested a lot in Jaap and other former players."

However, Stam's representative, Henk van Ginkel, has now hit back at De Boer, while at the same time explaining that his client has a three-year contract with Ajax but one that will be re-evaluated at the end of the season.

"I hear people from Ajax saying that they don't want to let Jaap go," the agent told Voetbal International. "Frank de Boer even said that Ajax invested a lot in Jaap. But I'm wondering, what investments?

"I think this is all about money. Ajax asked Jaap to work over there, not the other way around, and now Ajax is acting like he must thank God for working at Ajax!"

Stam spent two years with Milan before spending the final season of his playing career in Amsterdam.
