De Boer happy with imminent arrival of Stam at Ajax
The Dutch coach says he is pleased with the signing of the former Netherlands defender to his backroom staff and thinks his presence will help develop the club's young players
Ajax coach Frank de Boer has hailed the signing of Jaap Stam as his assistant manager.
The former Manchester United defender will join up with the Eredivisie outfit next season as De Boer’s assistant, and the Ajax boss admits he is looking forward to working with him.
“I'm happy, because this is what we want to create [at] our club,” de Boer told the club’s official website.
"[Stam is] a player with a great track record as a coach, who has charisma to help the youth [at the club].
“I think he has proven that he is a good coach and I think we are getting a better Jaap Stam.”
The 40-year-old, who had playing spells with Lazio, AC Milan, PSV and Ajax themselves, will leave his post as assistant manager at FC Zwolle and join De Boer’s coaching team at the end of the season.
