Ajax announce Van der Sar as new marketing director
The Dutch champions have confirmed the former goalkeeper will take over the club's advertising division, hoping that he can contribute to the club's growth
Ajax director Hans Wijers has confirmed that former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will act as the club's new marketing director. The Netherlands legend had retired from professional football in 2011, and will now return to the Amsterdam ArenA, where he started his career over two decades ago.
"Michael Kinsbergen, will lead the management and organisation in the coming years, and Edwin van der Sar will assist its further development," he announced in an official statement.
"Van der Sar has not only a great track record in international football, but he also possesses the natural leadership and the potential to become the general manager of Ajax eventually.
"Together with the other former football players here, he will be a very appealing face of the club both nationally and internationally.
"I speak on behalf of the entire supervisory board when I say that we are confident that in the coming years, with this board, we can gradually work towards the further growth of Ajax."
Van der Sar was part of the team that won the 1995 Champions League.
