Van Nistelrooy open to coaching career
The Dutchman has made it known that he has not yet excluded any possibility of a managerial position and he admits the idea intrigues him after retiring from the game back in May
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy has said that a return to football could happen and he would most likely want to be a trainer. In an interview with the Telegraaf, the former Malaga forward opened up about future football aspirations.
"I have watched with interest what Patrick Kluivert has done and I want to explore this avenue," said the 36-year-old. "I at least want to get my paperwork, an internship and at least 'the chance.'"
"I'm still living in Spain and enjoy my free time. I train a bit in the morning hours and spend a lot of time on my foundation."
The former PSV striker did say that he wanted to return to playing as well, eventually, adding: "I'm asking to be a part of this New Year's former Dutch internationals team that play exhibitionally against [amateur club] Royal HFC, but I'm not going to be in the Netherlands that day. I hope I'll be able to play in the future."
Van Nistelrooy scored 135 goals in 203 appearances for Manchester United, and tallied 35 goals in 71 matches internationally.
