The former Malmo star faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, and is scheduled to undergo surgery shortlyPSV coach Dick Advocaat has received some disturbing news from the treatment table as he will have to make do without the services of Sweden international Ola Toivonen for six months due to a hamstring injury.
The attacking midfielder picked up the knock while training with the national team earlier this week, and returned to Eindhoven on Thursday to undergo further examination.
A series of tests have revealed Toivonen has sustained a hamstring tendon rupture and PSV have confirmed on their official website the forward will be out of action for up to six months. The 26-year-old will undergo surgery in the upcoming days.
Toivonen had been a key figure at PSV this season, scoring three goals in seven Eredivisie appearances for the Eindhoven giants.
The Sweden international's injury means that Georginio Wijnaldum is likely to get the chance to prove his worth as attacking midfielder again.
