John Heitinga has urged Netherlands to focus on the future rather than continue to dwell on their disappointing performances at Euro 2012.
Oranje failed to survive the group stages in Poland and Ukraine as Denmark, Germany and Portugal all proved to be too strong.
However, the Dutch started their qualification campaign for the 2014 World Cup with a 2-0 win over Turkey, and Heitinga is adamant they should look ahead.
"The European Championship was a rather disappointing tournament for us, but let's not forget that we also made it to the World Cup final under Bert van Marwijk," Heitinga told De Telegraaf.
"We should look ahead now and focus on the immediate future. I want to play a key role for Oranje in the next few years, and I know that I have what it takes to do just that."
Holland continue their 2014 World Cup qualification campaign with an away match versus Hungary on Tuesday.
