Newcastle's interest in Douglas 'unclear', says Twente chief

Brazilian-born defender has been linked with a move to St James' Park but Joop Munsterman has criticised the player's indecision about a potential Premier League switch
FC Twente chairman Joop Munsterman has admitted he is in the dark over defender Douglas' potential move to Newcastle United.

The Brazilian-born player is thought to be close to attaining Dutch citizenship and has been linked with the Magpies for some time.

But the Dutch club's chief has claimed the 24-year-old has kept people at De Grolsch Veste guessing as to exactly where his loyalties lie.

"It is unclear what Newcastle United and Douglas want exactly," Munsterman told De Telegraaf.

"Douglas says he wants to leave one week and the next week he wants to stay."

The tall defender joined Twente in 2007 and was a key member of the club's title-winning team in 2010.
