One of Bert van Marwijk's closest lieutenants has been relieved of his duties following Louis Van Gaal's appointment as coach of Oranje
Alfred Schreuder has expressed his disappointment at being asked to abandon his position as part of Netherlands' coaching staff in the wake of Bert van Marwijk's resignation.Schreuder was appointed as assistant coach alongside Phillip Cocu in 2009 after gaining experience alongside Steve McClaren at Twente.
But there has been a wholesale clear-out following Oranje's elimination from Euro 2012, which has resulted in Louis van Gaal being re-appointed as coach after an initial unsuccessful spell between 2000 and 2002.
"I am sorry that this post at Orange for me ceased to exist, but I understand the situation," Screuder told De Telegraaf.
"Each coach must compose his own staff. Van Marwijk did it and Van Gaal will also do so now."
Van Gaal has appointed former Ajax defender Danny Blind as his assistant coach.
