Retired Dutch players Ruud Gullit, Frank De Boer and Ronald De Boer have congratulated Louis van Gaal on his appointment as Netherlands coach. The 60-year-old has been given a second stint in charge of Oranje after Bert van Marwijk's departure in the aftermath of Euro 2012, and the veteran trainer has the backing of some well-respected figures in the country.
“Louis van Gaal, congratulations on your appointment. I wish you every success and happiness,” Gullit, who was also a candidate for the job, commented on Twitter.
“Hi trainer, the KNVB [Dutch FA] has listened carefully to my advice. I had you tipped as the new boss, good luck,” Ronald De Boer stated on the social networking site.
“Great that you have a second chance with the KNVB. Good luck with Oranje heading towards Brazil 2014,” Ajax boss Frank De Boer said.
Van Gaal previously coached Netherlands between 2000 and 2002. He also had managerial stints at Ajax, Barcelona, AZ and Bayern Munich.
