Eredivisie Round 31 Results: Ajax retain six-point lead, Twente and PSV leave it late

The reigning champions held on to their advantage with a victory over Groningen, while Twente, PSV, and AZ produced unconvincing displays

NAC 0-3 Roda

Roda built on their win away to Groningen last week with a comprehensive victory over NAC. The hosts, whose Eredivisie status for next season is still not secured, failed to get a grip on proceedings.

The visitors pounced after the break, with the prolific Sanhalib Malki heading home his 22nd of the season in the 58th minute. Mitchell Donald put the game to bed in the 75th minute, before Ruud Vormer rounded off the win.

Heerenveen 1-1 Vitesse

Heerenveen spilled valuable points in the race for second place on Saturday, stuttering to a 1-1 draw against seventh-placed Vitesse at the Abe Lenstra Stadium.

Filip Djuricic put the hosts ahead as early as the 5th minute, converting Narsingh's delivery. The northern side failed to extend their lead however, and were punished 11 minutes from time. Substitute Mike Havenaar latched onto a ball from Bony, beating Nordfeldt with a simple finish.

ADO 1-2 Feyenoord

Feyenoord remain in contention for a second placed finish following their victory over ADO. The Rotterdam side dominated throughout, but did not find the breakthrough until the 46th minute, when Ruben Schaken handed his side the lead. Guyon Fernandez wrapped up the win 20 minutes from time, before Lex Immers netted a late consolation strike from the spot.

Excelsior 0-1 Twente

FC Twente grabbed the spoils at the death on Sunday, with substitute Nacer Chadli netting an injury time winner for the Tukkers. The relegation candidates had limited the visitors to long range efforts for much of the game, but were ultimately left empty-handed due to the winger's late strike.

RKC 0-2 Utrecht

Utrecht left it late on Saturday, condemning RKC to a rare home defeat with second-half strikes. The hosts started the brighter of the two sides, peppering the Utrecht goal with multiple efforts. The Domstedelingen would bag the win however, with Alje Schut and Alexander Gerndt netting two late goals.

De Graafschap 2-3 Heracles

An eventful encounter saw Heracles leave Doetinchem with three points, despite being reduced to nine men before the final whistle.

Soufian el Hassnaoui and Armenteros opened the scoring for both sides early on, with Ninos Gouriye handing the visitors the lead before the break. Everton appeared to wrap up the victory eight minutes after the interval, but two late red cards and a penalty goal from Michael de Leeuw ensured a nervy end to the contest.

AZ 2-1 VVV

AZ maintained their chase for second with an unconvincing win over VVV on Sunday. Both sides could only rattle the woodwork in the first half, but Brett Holman put the visitors ahead two minutes after the interval. Quin Kruijsen then put his side back on level terms, only to see dangerman Jozy Altidore grab a winner in the 65th minute.

PSV 2-1 NEC

The hosts looked on course to defeat for most of the tie, an early goal from Navarone Foor putting the Eindhoven side on the back foot. Left-back Jetro Willems put his side back in contention in the 68th minute, sparking a frenzied conclusion to the game. It was PSV who would come out on top, with veteran striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink netting a crucial winner in the 88th minute.
