The left-back limped off the field during his side's 2-1 defeat at home to RKC last Wednesday and was forced to watch the 3-2 win over AZ from the stands on Saturday.

The club revealed on their official website that an examination on Monday suggested Pieters may have suffered a hairline fracture in his right foot. He will now have to spend three weeks in plaster before being reassessed at the end of that period.

"It is very disappointing news. I will strictly adhere to the medical team’s rehabilitation programme," said Pieters.

"The gravity of the injury will be known in three weeks. I will give 200 per cent to get back to match fitness."

The 23-year-old had already missed out on four months of football this season after breaking his metatarsal back in October but is expected to return to action for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
