The former Twente midfielder believes he is unlikely to be selected for Netherlands' Euro 2012 squad, but has left the door open if he was to receive a call from the Dutch coachAjax midfielder Theo Janssen is not expecting a call-up from Bert van Marwijk ahead of this summer's European Championships.
The 30-year-old has made five appearances for Netherlands in the past yet has not featured for the Oranje since the 3-1 friendly win against Austria in January 2011, a game in which he played 71 minutes.
Although he has featured regularly for Ajax since his summer arrival from Twente, the playmaker believes he will not be going to the tournament, which is to be held jointly by Poland and Ukraine.
"It is clear [I will not go to Euro 2012]. Why? I do not feel I am close to it. Kevin Strootman is doing very well and Stijn Schaars is playing in Portugal," he told De Telegraaf.
Despite feeling he will not be considered for the Euros, Janssen has left the door open for a potential call-up.
"Hopefully it will be a fantastic European Championships. People who know me will know I will go if the coach calls me," he concluded.
Janssen's Ajax are currently fourth in Eredivisie, three points behind leaders AZ.
