Against ten man, AZ took over the initiative and promising youngster Celso Ortiz helped the Alkmaarders to the full three points with a curled shot from the edge of the area.

The Superboeren immediately pushed Roda back in their own half and former Ajax starlet Rydell Poepon opened the score halfway the first half after a perfect cross from Steve de Ridder. Poepon doubled his side's lead only minutes later with yet another calm finish after being set up by Sjoerd Overgoor. Belgian attacker Stijn Huysegems then pegged one back for the Limburgers after a pass from Rihairo Meulens, but De Graafschap weren't impressed too much. Again Poepon went past three Roda defenders before beating the Roda goalie with a loew shot in the far corner.
