Matchday 12 kicks off with the match between relegation candidates VVV and Groningen. The Venlo side have been in disappointing form this season and currently sit seventeenth in the league table with only six points. They put in a good performance in the first half against Feyenoord in midweek, but were eventually beaten 3-0. Groningen have every reason to be pleased with their performances so far this term. They beat ADO Den Haag 3-1 on Wednesday and are the league's number five at the moment. Elsewhere, NAC host De Graafschap. The Breda side were beaten 4-1 by Heracles in midweek will be gunning for revenge on Saturday evening. They currently sit joint tenth in the league table. The Superboeren picked up the full three points against AZ on Wednesday and have collected exactly as many points as NAC.
Amsterdam giants Ajax await a difficult away match against Heracles. The Godenzonen have struggled on Heracles' artificial turf in the past couple of years and will have to be at their best on Saturday. Ajax recorded a 3-1 routine win over Heerenveen on Wednesday and are the league's number three with 24 points from eleven games. Heracles beat NAC 4-1 on Tuesday evening and the Almelo side will be looking to record another good result on Saturday. They currently sit thirteenth in the league table. Relegation candidates Excelsior take on Heerenveen and the Rotterdam side are in desperate need of a good result in order to stay clear of the drop zone. They have dropped to fourteenth spot in the table following their loss against Utrecht in midweek. Heerenveen have been performing less than expected in the opening months of the season and the Friezen sit joint tenth in the Eredivisie. They were beaten 3-1 by Ajax on Wednesday and will be looking to bounce back with a win against Excelsior.
The last match on Saturday evening will be the highly anticipated clash between table toppers PSV and reigning champions Twente. Both sides have been in outstanding form this term and are still unbeaten after eleven games. The Eindhoven side recorded a solid 2-0 away win against Vitesse on Wednesday and have collected 27 points so far. Bulgarian defender Stanislav Manolev and playmaker Ibrahim Afellay are both doubtful due to injury, but are expected to be match fit in time. Twente struggled a bit against Willem II in midweek, but eventually recorded a 3-1 away win. The Tukkers sit second in the table with 25 points from eleven games. Head coach Michel Preud'homme will have to make do without the services of Nicky Kuiper and Bart Buysse due to injury, while Wout Brama and Dwight Tiendalli are doubtful.
On Sunday, NEC host regional rivals Vitesse in what promises to be an exciting game. NEC recorded a 1-1 draw against Roda on Tuesday and appear to be nearing top form. The Nijmegen side have climbed to ninth spot in the table following their good results in recent weeks. Vitesse on the other hand are struggling to find their best form and were beaten 2-0 by PSV in midweek. The Arnhem side are battling against relegation and currently sit sixteenth in the table. New head coach Albert Ferrer will make his debut on Sunday. Elsewhere, ADO Den Haag lock horns with Europa League hopefuls Utrecht. ADO started the season in superb fashion, but seem to have lost it a bit in the past couple of weeks. They were beaten 3-1 by Groningen on Wednesday and are now the Eredivisie's number eight with fifteen points. The Domstedelingen might not have been too impressive recently, but they have managed to climb to sixth spot following their 2-0 win over Excelsior in midweek.
In form Roda take on Willem II in what will be yet another difficult match for the Tilburgers. Willem II are still looking for their first win of the season after eleven games and have collected only one point so far. They were beaten 3-1 by Twente in midweek. Roda on the other hand are the league's number four at the moment with 22 points. The Limburgers were held to a 1-1 draw by NEC on Tuesday, but will be looking to return to winning ways at the weekend. Finally, 2008-09 champions AZ host fallen giants Feyenoord. The Alkmaarders' winning streak came to an abrupt halt in midweek, when De Graafschap proved to be too strong for AZ. They still sit seventh in the league table though and will be rather pleased with the way things are going so far. Feyenoord on the other hand have been in disappointing form and are battling against relegation. The Rotterdam side recorded a much needed 3-0 win over VVV on Wednesday and currently sit joint fourteenth in the Eredivisie table.
