Highly rated winger Roy Beerens was being linked with clubs such as Fiorentina, Ajax and Twente during the summer transfer window, but the Dutch international eventually opted to stay at Heerenveen. Beerens has now revealed that he would be interested in joining Ajax in the future though.
"Joining Ajax would be the perfect next step in my career. Their style of play fits me perfectly and I have a feeling that I would feel very well at the club," Beerens was quoted as saying by Voetbal International.
"Twente are a completely different story though. Of course, it would be great to play Champions League football. I'm not sure whether Twente are a step forward for me though. Sure, they won the Eredivisie last term, but they won't repeat that feat this season.
"It was nice to hear that Fiorentina were interested in signing me last year. However, I want to succeed in the Netherlands before I move abroad. I'm very satisfied with my current financial situation, but there could come a moment that I want to move to a bigger club."
The 22-year-old Beerens wore the jerseys of PSV and NEC before joining Heerenveen in the summer of 2007. He has since made 90 Eredivisie appearances for the Friezen, scoring 20 goals in the process.
