Eredivisie giants Ajax have confirmed the departure of young midfielder Jan-Arie van der Heijden to Willem II on a temporary basis. The 22-year-old has signed a one-year loan deal with the Tilburg outfit.

Willem II parted company with several first team players this summer and head coach Gert Heerkes was determined to sign some replacements ahead of the new season. The Tricolores previously captured Giovanni Gravenbeek, Juha Hakola, Evgeniy Levchenko, Rowin van Zaanen and Niek Vossebelt.

Van der Heijden is a product of the illustrious Ajax youth academy and was widely regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters around in Amsterdam. However, a number of injuries have prevented him from making an impact so far.

The midfielder has so far made only two Eredivisie appearances for Ajax. He was also farmed out on loan to Willem II last term and tallied 26 league appearances, scoring one goal in the process.
