Ajax Keen On Sion Striker Emile Mpenza - Report
The Belgian attacker could be on his way to the Eredivisie...
By Stefan Coerts
According to a report in NUsport, Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax are considering making a move for experienced Belgian striker Emile Mpenza, currently under contract with Swiss outfit Sion.
The Amsterdam titans are in the market for a new striker following the release of Serbian international Marko Pantelic earlier this summer and head coach Martin Jol supposedly sees Mpenza as a good replacement.
Ajax had initially set their sights on Moroccan international Mounir el Hamdaoui and they had already agreed terms with AZ. However, the Godenzonen refused to meet El Hamdaoui's personal demands. Therefore, they've now turned their attention to Mpenza.
The 32-year-old Belgian international has previously worn the jerseys of big clubs such as Standard Liege, Schalke, Hamburg and Manchester City.
Mpenza scored 21 goals in 32 league appearances last term and is reportedly eager to move to a bigger club again this summer. Ajax have yet to make an official offer for the powerful striker, though.
