The highly rated defender is more than happy to stay at Ajax and isn't thinking about leaving the Amsterdam side...Goal.com UK revealed on Wednesday that several Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel, with Arsenal and Manchester City reportedly among his admirers.
However, the young Dutch international has made it clear that he's not thinking about a transfer. Van der Wiel wants to focus on the end of the season with Ajax and the upcoming World Cup instead.
"I don't know anything about the interest of other teams and I'm not thinking about a transfer at the moment. I just want to focus on the exciting end of the Eredivisie season and then play a good World Cup," said Van der Wiel to Goal.com NL.
"I'd be more than happy to stay at Ajax for another season. I'm still young and have plenty to learn here. I'm feeling very well at Ajax. Nevertheless, you never know what will happen in football.
"I remember Wesley Sneijder's situation a couple of years ago. He also revealed that he wanted to stay at Ajax, but he left the club for Real Madrid only a week later."
