Clashes between Ajax and PSV are always much anticipated by supporters and players alike, and Netherlands international Gregory van der Wiel is no different, explaining his desire to play in the weekend’s clash to the Godenzonen’s official website.

Ajax are presently third in the Eredivisie standings, six points behind leaders Twente with only 10 matches remaining. With PSV sandwiched by the pair, four points better off than their weekend hosts, Sunday’s encounter promises to be an especially enticing affair.

“We play again at home and here we are always very eager,” van der Wiel stated after Friday’s training session. “This game is important, but also the game with RKC Waalwijk next week is just as important. We have nothing if we win on Sunday but lose next week.”

The young defender has pinpointed communication as the key to success for the Amsterdam outfit. “During each game and training session, we talk as much as possible with each other,” he said. “That is the key. We tell it like it is and we dare each other to coach. That way, we will only get better.”

Van der Wiel is becoming known for his goal scoring acumen, and another strike on Sunday to add to the six he has collected already this season would be a valuable commodity for the 22-year-old right-back.
