Eredivisie powerhouse Feyenoord will open contract talks with highly rated VVV attacker Ruben Schaken in the coming days, according to a report in Voetbal International.

The right winger has an expiring contract with the Venlo side and recent reports suggested that Feyenoord were interested in signing Schaken on a free transfer this summer.

"Schaken has a number of interesting qualities. He has a nice individual action and his speed could be a very useful weapon. The fact that we will open contract talks means that we're both interested in reaching an agreement," said Feyenoord coach Mario Been.

"We're very eager to add Ruben to our squad this summer, but it's also important that he's keen to join us. Players should be honoured to play for Feyenoord, as we're a big club."

Feyenoord previously secured the services of versatile midfielder Adil Auassar from VVV on a free transfer.
