Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax put in a far from impressive performance against Utrecht on Sunday afternoon and were beaten 2-0. Head coach Martin Jol was realistic after the loss and made it clear that winning the league will be tough for Ajax.

"We always struggle in away games if we fail to convert any of our early chances. That results in a defeat every now and then. Sunday's loss wasn't a big surprise for me," said Jol in the post-match press conference.

"A lot of opponents let us have the initiative and fight us with a defensive approach. Most of the time our attackers manage to score anyway, but they failed to do so today. That resulted in a loss against Utrecht.

"PSV and Twente have hardly spilled any points unlike last season. It will be very difficult for us to win the Eredivisie this term. However, the season is still long and we can still collect 54 more points in the remaining 18 games."

Ajax sit third in the Eredivisie at the moment with 35 points from 16 games. They trail table toppers Twente by nine points while PSV sit seven points ahead of the Amsterdam side.
