Vitesse Goalie Piet Velthuizen Sustains Injury
The shot-stopper faces a spell on the sidelines due to injury...
Eredivisie outfit Vitesse will possibly have to make do without Dutch international Piet Velthuizen for a while after the shot stopper has picked up a neck injury.
The 23-year-old sustained the injury in his side's 5-1 league loss against Ajax on Sunday. Velthuizen went to the ground after a duel with Jan Vertonghen and was forced to leave the pitch after about ten minutes of play.
The goalkeeper immediately visited the hospital to undergo further examination and a scan revealed that Velthuizen suffers bruised muscles in his neck.
Vitesse's medical staff initially feared that Velthuizen had sustained a concussion, but these worries appeared to be unnecessary.
"Piet is in a lot of pain, but his injuries aren't too serious after all. He doesn't have a concussion," a spokesman was quoted as saying by reporters.
It's not yet known how long Velthuizen will be unavailable due to the knock, but next weekend's game against AZ appears to be too early for the highly rated goalkeeper.
