Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax locked horns with Heerenveen on Sunday and the Amsterdam side put in a stunning performance to thrash the Friezen 5-1. Head coach Martin Jol was not only delighted with the final result but was also quite satisfied with his men's performance.

"Our first half performance was close to perfection. We created seven or eight huge chances of which we scored five goals, so we had every reason to be delighted," said Jol in the post-match press conference.

"I think that we created even more chances after the interval, but we were unable to score any more goals. That's a shame, but we heavily beat a pretty good opponent today and are very satisfied.

"Everyone was having fun on the pitch today and that is really important. We were outstanding when we had possession and our midfielders never stopped running. Heerenveen were unable to cope with our game."
